Two days of high-level bassoon training, artistry, and community in Detroit

July 9-10, 2026 @ Wayne State University

The mission of the Detroit Bassoon Seminar is to provide a high-level educational experience that is financially accessible, giving motivated bassoonists the opportunity to study with leading professionals and receive top-tier instruction without the burden of financial barriers

The 2026 Detroit Bassoon Seminar is a two-day summer program held at Wayne State University in Detroit, dedicated to bringing together bassoonists for an intensive and inspiring educational experience. Led by Conrad Cornelison (principal bassoon, Detroit Symphony Orchestra; faculty, Wayne State University) and Benjamin Kamins (retired principal bassoon, Houston Symphony; faculty, Rice University), the seminar offers masterclasses, reed-making instruction, Alexander Technique sessions, and performances, along with opportunities to engage directly with leading professionals in the field. Built on a commitment to accessibility, the program is designed to provide the same level of high-quality instruction and artistic exchange found at major festivals, while keeping costs low so that motivated students can participate without financial barriers.
